Abstract

The purpose of this research is to raise awareness and educate future civil engineering educators on accessibility issues of people with disabilities. The students—future civil engineering educators— were asked to create webquests aimed at raising awareness and educating their future students on issues of accessibility for people with disabilities. The structure and content of the intervention also served the purpose of online learning throughout its duration. The research process followed the disability awareness methodology, following three specific stages, during which students carried out disability-related activities. The training also focused on the development of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) based on the synthesis of theoretical pedagogical knowledge with digital technologies. The research process followed the principles of mixed methodology, as qualitative and quantitative data were collected and analyzed. The results of the intervention responded positively to the research questions. Specifically, the participating students showed significant improvement in their knowledge of the needs of people with disabilities, the principles and technical regulations of accessibility, and successfully created online educational material for use in a blended or distance learning context.
