Sustainable water management: Design and Creation of an Open Educational Resource-OER
Abstract
Open Educational Resources (OER) are increasingly being used in education. They are a key element of open distance learning. This paper presents the design and construction of an OER related to the sustainable management of water resources. Sustainable development is a type of development that aims to restore balance to nature by taking into account the three pillars of Environment, Economy, and Society and seeking long-term improvement and preservation of human quality of life. The OER, whose design and construction are presented, is a webquest created on the OpenWebquest website of the University of the Peloponnese. The paper analyzes the concepts of sustainable development and education for sustainable development and highlights issues related to sustainable water management and the concept of water footprint. It also presents the basic methodological choices for the instructional design of the module and the technological choices for constructing the webquest. It is argued that the application facilitates flexibility in learning and provides an environment characterized by a clear and accessible flow of information. In addition, the sources are linked to the objectives and content and provide as much information as possible to learners.
