Abstract

This paper seeks to take a sociological approach to the lived experiences of parents of students at a Kindergarten in Athens regarding the implementation of "Emergency Remote Teaching" (ERT), in which their children participated. The study was conducted in the spring of 2021 using the semi-structured interview tool. Its most important findings reveal that: (a) Parents positively assessed the implementation of the ERT because their children were able to become familiar with the use of technological tools through which communication is promoted. Also, through supporting the participation of toddlers in the ERT, parents felt satisfaction because they were able to understand how the educational work was carried out in the Kindergarten and the stage of cognitive development of their children. (b) The cultural capital of parents influenced the formation of their views on the implementation of ERT in Kindergarten. (c) The concerns of the parents of the sample regarding the implementation of the ERT were identified in the lunchtime implementation schedule of distance learning during the pandemic, which was deemed inappropriate, in technical issues they encountered when connecting to Webex, as well as the absence of physical interaction between infants which is considered essential for their psychosocial and emotional development.
