An investigation on the influence of webquest in the context of the improvement of educational work by learning collaboratively in small groups

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of teaching via Webquest  in small groups in primary education. Forty-two pupils of the fifth grade have worked in the computer science lesson for three weeks divided into small groups of three members, as to create an advertisement. All necessary information has been totally collected from the Internet by the children. Pupils from experimental group have had as a guide to their work a properly formatted Webquest while pupils from the control group have sought information freely from the Web. Data concerning pupils’ attitudes on teamwork have been collected before and after the teaching intervention and data on pupils' performance only in the end. The statistical analysis have showed that pupils from the experimental group have achieved better performance and have acquired more positive attitudes toward teaching in small groups compared with pupils from the control group.
