Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present the evaluation of the classroom environment that is being shaped along with the teaching and learning processes accompanied by the use of a computer environment during asynchronous distance learning. The whole project was applied to adult learners in the School of Second Chance of Serres.

The evaluation resulted from an inquiry about the adults’ attitudes formed after their participation in the course.

After teaching the information literacy through the well-known platform Moodle, a process which lasted for four months in real conditions, the evaluation came next.

The design and development of educational material was based on the information literacy at schools of second chance, the distinctive characteristics of distance learning and finally the learning principles which concern the adult education.

The educational material was developed using West and Lionaraki’s principles related to the “educational package”, the principles about the educational material which were related to the learning styles and especially Kolb’s model.

The research is a case study which was based both on a quantitative (questionnaires) and a qualitative analysis (interview). All the 52 trainees of the second class of the school year 2009-2010 participated in the research. The trainees came from the second chance school in Serres and the branch school on the border betweenGreeceand Bulgaria.

The results of the study indicated that the trainees develop positive attitudes towards distance learning, evaluate positively their participation in the program and accept the necessity of applying the distance learning even to the other literacies through the E-Learning Platform Moodle.
