Abstract

The effectiveness of learning is the fundamental point at issue in distance education, as in every other form of education. At the same time, a lot of theories concerning learners’ learning styles have been recorded, which prove the existence of individual differences, as well as their importance during the learning process. Besides, instructional material in distance education is of great importance because it constitutes the basic means of teaching and learning for the learners. On this basis, the present thesis is aiming at presenting Bernice McCarthy’s 4Model-Action-Talk (4MAT), a learning styles model, as an innovative model for distance instructional material construction. Specifically, the present thesis associates distance instructional material with learning styles, via a new, for the Greek data, learning styles model, that of Bernice McCarthy’s 4 MAT Model. 4MAT Model may suggest a new way of constructing distance instructional material, via a cycle of learning which includes eight steps that are adapted to all learners’ learning styles, aiming to promote the effectiveness of learning in distance education.
