The application of distance learning in schools of Secondary Education of Attica, during the first period of covid-19 (2020-2021)
Abstract
The present study investigates the degree of implementation of school distance education, which took place unexpectedly during the first wave of the coronavirus pandemic (March-June 2020). The sudden and violent shift from in-person teaching to e-learning highlighted weaknesses in our education system, which focused primarily on the lack of an action plan to deal with crises. The teachers, as the only exponents of the teaching process, experienced pressure, stress, insecurity in their attempt to respond to the new condition, without the necessary supplies, i.e. digital teaching materials, ICT training, necessary technological equipment and others. In addition, they were obliged to adapt their lesson to the varied needs of their students, inventing techniques to attract their interest . The opinions of the teachers for the specific period of time were thoroughly researched and recorded in this study . During the research process, the qualitative research approach was utilized with the semi-structured interview as a research tool , in a convenience sampling sample of twelve (12) Secondary Education teachers of the prefecture of Attica.
