The Online Learning Communities and the Directions for their Sustainability

Abstract
The present study uses the method of bibliographic analysis and refers initially to the concept, the general and specific characteristics of the Online Communities. Consequently, the study focuses on the Online Learning Communities (O.L.C.) and is presented the way of Online Learning Communities’ creation and development. Especially, are defined the benefits that result from their application, the parameters that must be taken into account during their planning, organization and functioning, in order to be a proper mean of further education, communication and collaboration among the members of a learning community. In addition, the way of moderating O.L.C. is presented, the roles of Communities’ members are referred and the role of moderator is clarified. Namely, are given methods of proper and efficient management of an O.L.C., the traits and competences of the Community’s members and are analyzed the organizational, social and intellectual responsibilities of the facilitator. Lastly, the study focuses on the factors that influence maintaining, sustainability and continued successful functioning of the O.L.C. More specifically, will be presented the longevity’s indicators of Communities and will be analyzed the factors of maintaining them, such as proper software and technological support. Moreover, will be highlighted the importance of frequent communication and inclusivity of the Community members, the keeping of the motivation of participants as well as the frequent rotation of the members in the role of the facilitator in order to promote and encourage cooperation among its members.
