Collaborative learning approaches in distance higher education
Abstract
Modern pedagogical theories give great importance to the active participation of the learner in the learning process, experiential and discovery learning, working in groups and the role of the context in which learning takes place. The need for theories and models which reflect a collaborative approach to distance education and promote an adaptive interaction of teaching and learning has come to the fore especially in the last decade. The paper attempts a scoping review of the forms, benefits and challenges of distance collaborative learning for higher education institutions, with the aim of examining the extent and scope of the aforementioned topic, the gathering of heterogeneous research findings, as well as the highlighting of research gaps in tertiary distance education.
