The effect of distance education on conventional educational environments A Hellenic Open University research program

Abstract

In recent years, due to the large offer of programs through distance education (D.E), serious dialogue has been observed related to the implementation practices of this education model by conventional higher education institutions. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to investigate the innovations, changes and influences that the H.O.U. has played over the years in the way and methodology of offering short or long-term study programs by higher institutions and in areas that make up the educational status of D.E. This paper presents and describes within the framework of the program "Funding of research in the H.O.U" the research project financed by it and aimed at the investigation and analysis of the innovations, changes and influences that started from the H.O.U. and had an effect on the way and methodology of offering short or long study programs from higher education institutions. First, after clarifying the concepts of educational innovation and change, the research program's purpose, objectives, and innovative elements are presented. In addition, the H.O.U innovations and changes are recorded in the offer of quality provision of study programs. Then, the influences of the H.O.U in 14 HEIs of conventional education are presented indicatively in relation to the countenance of D.E.
