Abstract

The integration of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education provides students and teachers with specialized tools that eliminate the distance between them and create interesting distance learning experiences.  One such case is the Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) that are currently being developed, mainly by higher education institutions and attended by thousands of people, from all over the world. Traditionally, the educational material offered through MOOCs has been in the form of short videos, slides or other digital files. On the other hand, the explosion in the development and use of Virtual Reality (VR) technology in education gives students and teachers new tools and methods of interaction that reshape the methodologies for presenting educational material. This paper studies the use of VR as a method of presenting educational material in the context of a MOOC, evaluating with real students, its usability, usefulness as an educational tool, as well as the level of realism of the learning experience it provides.
