Abstract
In this paper, the role and characteristics that make feedback effective in distance higher education were studied, based on the educational activities in educational material of the postgraduate programme "Education and Technologies in Distance Teaching and Learning Systems - Education Sciences" at the Hellenic Open University, with the ultimate aim of researching the issue of enhancing the quality of the programme. Initially, a literature review was conducted for the theoretical framework of the study, examining key dimensions such as assessment, quality, forms of feedback and its characteristics. Then, using a qualitative approach, the research process was carried out with the participation of six participants. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, through which participants captured their experience of the feedback process. At the same time, they provided their views on the characteristics of the feedback process that make it effective, with the aim of drawing conclusions and suggestions to improve the quality of the programme. Through content analysis, the paper concludes among others that qualitative feedback, through its analytical nature and personalisation, encourages and guides learners towards improving their learning and progress. Therefore, qualitative feedback contributes positively to enhancing the quality of a distance learning programme
