Abstract

There are many teachers who are asked to create educational material for distance education without often having the appropriate training. In the present research, an attempt is made to study the way in which the teachers, who work in distance online tutorials and teach the philology courses, create educational material. Also, the type of training they have received for the creation of distance learning material is investigated and, at the same time, it is sought to show the necessity of their training. With the input of eight willing philologists, who shared their experiences and opinions through semi-structured interviews, this research conducts remarkable results for distance tutoring and its teaching materials. Thus, it seems that only one in eight participants has certified training in distance teaching and creation of educational material. It is encouraging that - even empirically, without theoretical knowledge - teachers create a variety of educational materials and embrace certain principles of creating educational materials, such as brevity. However, indeed the majority of the participants admit the lack of training in their field of work and wish to be trained, at least, in the distance learning methodology.
