Enhancing learning autonomy and independence in students with visual impairment at distance education
Abstract
As education evolves to keep pace with technological developments, distance education is becoming a critical part of the education system. The implementation of distance education helps to alleviate educational exclusion, but not without hindrance. The aim of this research is to explore the relationship between distance education, learner autonomy and independence. Specifically, the perceptions of visually impaired secondary school students in Greece were investigated in order to clarify the limitations they face by attending distance education courses. The research for data collection is based on a mixed-methods approach, including using questionnaires for quantitative research and interviews for qualitative research. The research highlights the complex reality of distance education, revealing not only its potential, but also the existing barriers that hinder the full utilization of these possibilities by people with visual impairments.
