Women in Rebetiko Song: A Teaching Scenario for Music Lessons

Abstract

This teaching scenario is aimed at students of the 3rd Grade of secondary school, adopting the cross-curricular approach, as being compatible with the curriculum and cross-curricular framework. Specifically, it combines music, with sociology, social and political education and new technologies, examining in various ways related to the presentation of the lesson (google power point) and the use of applications to carry out digital activities (digital presentation, digital canvas, video). This cross-curricular teaching scenario attempts to socially sensitize students to gender issues in order to deconstruct subconscious stereotypes and social barriers. In this context, students discover the anti-systemic rebetikο society and its value system through the analysis and interpretation of the lyrics that refers to Women, but also the acquaintance with singers of the rebetiko song, which makes students partakers of this culture.
