Abstract
The emergence of the pandemic COVID-19 and the imperative implementation of urgent distance education around the world with the exclusive use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) pointed out the need for further research in this field. Although there is a lot of research on distance education and ICT, there is room for further research emphasizing the contribution of ICT that were used in school distance education in a pedagogical perspective in primary and secondary education. The ICT used to support distance education have been changed over the years from simple email to advanced technologies such as synchronous and asynchronous learning environments, social media and cutting-edge technologies such as learning analytics or artificial intelligence (AI) applications.
The research concerns the contribution of ICT to the two stages of distance school education with an emphasis on the pedagogical dimension of teaching and learning. The results of this research highlight remarkable similarities and differences in the utilization of ICT between Primary and Secondary education as well as ways to improve weaknesses.
