Abstract

The emergence of the pandemic two years ago, and the imperative implementation of urgent distance education around the world with the exclusive use of ICT, pointed out the need for further research in this field. Although there is a lot of research on distance education and ICT, there is room for further research emphasizing the contribution of ICT that were used in distance education, to educational process elements in a pedagogical perspective in primary and secondary education, which are the motivation of this research. The specific research is based on a questionnaire that was shared to a sample, having followed all the required actions for the collection of data.

Based on the literature, distance education appeared in order to cover rising needs relevant to the traditional form of education even at the early level of education. There are many types of technologies, the use of which depends on the purpose. The evolution of the utilization of distance education and the use of technologies differ from country to country in terms of the form but also in terms of adaptation. Greece is a country with a considerable delay in getting used to them, reaching the period of the pandemic. Although distance education and the use of ICT can offer much to education and improvement, they are more valuable if they are combined with pedagogical elements in the educational process. The results of the specific research are interesting, highlighting similarities and differences in relation to similar research in Europe, many of which are related to the problems of absence of previous experience of Greece, as well as appropriate training during the pandemic. However, there could be ways to improve weaknesses, as well as further research in order to reveal unexplored aspects.
