Abstract
This paper examines the presence and interaction of the three elements of the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework (cognitive presence, social presence and teaching presence) at the Hellenic Open University. The community of inquiry framework is examined in the following groups: educational material development group, tutor group, contact sessions and the forum. The results of this study show that in these selected cases the elements of the community of inquiry framework are present and their dynamic could lead in improved learning outcomes and increased satisfaction for the participants. However, these groups form a community of inquiry only informally. Finally, suggestions are made for future research and for further development of communities of inquiry at the Hellenic Open University.
