Abstract
The aim of this paper is to form an assessment model for digital online games and their applications as a means of open learning in the context of polymorphic distance museum education. In particular, the study determines the characteristics that online digital games should have in order to be functional in polymorphic distance museum education. Then, on their basis, it defines a set of criteria for the assessment of the quality of learning applications of online digital games as “active learning materials” and the effectiveness of informal distance learning/education. In order to do so, bibliographic research was carried out regarding open and distance education in relation to: ‘independence-freedom-democracy in learning’, ‘autonomy/autonomous learning’, ‘dissemination of knowledge’, ‘user-centered/learner-centered environment’, ‘multimedia environment’, ‘learning in a user-centered environment’ and finally ‘informal learning’. The set of criteria was then evaluated by two distance education experts and was reformed into a final model of four categories, eighteen (18) sets and thirty four (34) criteria. It is argued that the use of the proposed model will improve the quality of online polymorphic distance museum education.
