The Quality in Distance Education and Artificial Intelligence: Prospects, Challenges, and Ethical Dimensions Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative forces in modern education, especially in distance learning.
Abstract
The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is radically reshaping the landscape of distance education, introducing new opportunities as well as significant challenges. This paper explores how the integration of AI can enhance the quality of the educational process, focusing on three main dimensions: pedagogical effectiveness, student-centeredness, and ethical responsibility. Initially, the possibilities offered by intelligent teaching systems, chatbots, and virtual classrooms are presented, which can improve personalized learning and self-regulated study. Next, the emerging risks are analyzed, such as plagiarism, overreliance on technology, and potential algorithmic bias. Finally, emphasis is placed on the ethical and democratic aspects of AI use, with particular attention to the protection of personal data, equitable access, and the safeguarding of human rights. In conclusion, AI can serve as a lever for improving quality in distance education, provided it is integrated in a pedagogically informed, ethically responsible, and socially just manner.
