Assessment and Evaluation of educational organisms and institutions, the systemic theory and the Greek Open University

Abstract

Each human activity, from the simplest to the most complex, includes a line of energies that is related to the decision, the planning, the realization and the evaluation of the result. This evaluation allows us to appreciate the right operation of the systems or their need of modification. To this direction, the aim of the present work is to present the most important characteristics of evaluation of the educational organisms and institutions as background of theoretical approach and growth of process of evaluation in the Greek Open University, in order to make comprehensible the existing processes via which up to today the evaluation takes place, as well as make some new more effective ones. The findings of this project emphasize the need for systemic regard of the current institution and the renewal of his mechanisms of evaluation, constituting important evidences of its necessity for the effectiveness and the viability of the Greek Open University.
