Enhancing pre-school students’ understanding of water pollution through educational intervention

Abstract

The present research examines whether preschool students are able to understand concepts related to water pollution after a two-month teaching intervention with activities related to contemporary environmental problems. The data was collected through semi-structured individual interviews granted by 18 preschool students, before and after the teaching intervention. According to the results of the research, we find that it is possible to apply a properly designed environmental education program even to preschool students, so that in addition to acquiring knowledge on environmental problems such as water pollution, they can develop a friendly attitude towards the environment , thereby creating tomorrow's responsible citizens of a sustainable society.
