Abstract

In the modern Knowledge Economy, Research and Innovation are the most important instruments for economic development as they produce knowledge and its valorization. The Greek Research & Innovation System (ELSEK) has very interesting characteristics which have not been thoroughly studied and valorized. Its performance proves that it is of high quality and competitiveness making it one of the strengths of the Greek economy. With appropriate policies the ELSEK can obtain the size and specifications required for transforming the Greek economy into a modern and competitive economy, based on knowledge and innovation.
