Οικονομική Αξιολόγηση της Πολιτικής των Συγχωνεύσεων των Δημοτικών Σχολείων: Η περίπτωση της Περιφερειακής Ενότητας Σερρών

Abstract

The purpose of this study is the economic assessment of the policy of mergers in the case of primary schools of the Regional Unit of Serres. They were gathered  outturn economic data by the government funding agencies of schools and private household expenditure data through questionnaires. Criterion for policy evaluation is a comparison of the average annual public and private cost per pupil before and after mergers. From the empirical analysis showed that due to the policy of mergers school units decreased, their average size increased, the number of teachers was limited but improved the ratio of pupils per teacher. Regarding the annual public cost per pupil decreased significantly, while the average annual private costs increased without significantly affecting households. It is therefore economically the conclusion that the policy of mergers of schools would be beneficial for the Greek public without incurring substantial households.
