Abstract

Power Electronics is today a scientific / technological sector of intense research interest because it covers all industrial-craft-manufacturing (but also human) activity. Applications of Power Electronics are found in aerospace and public transport, generation-transmission-distribution and use of electricity, renewable energy sources and smart (sustainable) cities to robotics, mechatronics and biotechnology. In this direction, the Research Team of Power Electronics at Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH) has demonstrated a steady course with tangible results both purely academical (undergraduate, postgraduate and post-doctoral education) over the last five years, as well as on the basis of research collaboration with other Academic Institutions and the establishment of close links with the Greek Industry. In this paper we will analyze the results of the activities of the Research Team of Power Electronics at DUTH and the benefits for the Greek industry and for the Greek society in general. Finally, targeted policies and actions will be proposed that can catalyze the further enhancement of the extroversion of Greek Universities.
