Abstract
Student assessment is intertwined with the educational process; namely it is prevalent in every phase of teaching and learning. According to the legal educational framework, school students characterized as distinguished ones are in fact top-ranked in terms of educational assessment. The percentage of these students is indicative of the class level in addition to rendering a crucial indicator regarding individual student progress and school educational development on the whole. This paper examines the percentages of distinguished Junior High School students across the five regional units of the Central Greece Region for the school years 2015-2016 and 2016-2017. The study findings show that the percentages are high with a slight rise in 2016-2017 in comparison with 2015-2016. It is remarkable that during both school years the percentage of the 3rd Grade distinguished students is slightly lower than that of Grades 1 and 2 accordingly. Furthermore, the percentage variation among distinguished Junior High School students from the five regional units' cities and towns was examined.
