Abstract

The High-Speed railways should be scheduled as the core of a combined transports-network providing efficient interfaces with the different transport means (rail-road/road-rail/high-speed rail-peripheral rail/ship/aviation) presenting minimal costs. The enterprises which exploit/operate railway lines are of capital-intense, consequently the application of innovative cutting-edge technologies is of decisive importance in order to succeed minimal costs (in operation and annual maintenance), rendering these enterprises competitive in the free market of the transportation sector.
