School buildings and urban space effect smooth mental and psychological development of child. Corfu as a case study
Abstract
An education design with quality uses experiential activities and implementation of programs which have openness and sensitivity to contemporary issues. School space and city affect students and contribute to their mental-psychological development. Just to get to know or use the space has no meaning for children. Kids need real relationship with space architecture. Far from the false security of mass culture and ready solutions, there are examples demonstrating that cities could become friendly to the kids when they can express their opinion about changes. But how we can define «beauty» and «ugly» in space surrounding the child and how modern aesthetic theories are used? How can we help children to understand what they like and what is not, into space, to become active? Which is «cultural routes» value in dialogue with architecture and in building of personal identity? All these are some of the research questions. As an example are described cultural routes for adolescents in Corfu town, as a means of treatment and also, are referred school buildings situation and children’s actions to improve school space.
