Architectural structures and Geometry fundamentals for preschoolers
Abstract
The present project is an educational suggestion for preschoolers, aiming to emphasize on the architectural construction of a residence, as an investigative tool which will allow children to implicit geometry fundamentals i.e. parallelism and verticality, as well as physics and engineering fundamentals i.e. force and load.
Then, we investigate children’s proposed ideas, concerning the interior arrangement of their residential structure and finally we create different stories focused on the specific structure.
To implement this project, safe materials are used such as plastic axes for beams and pillars and cardboards for the rest of the construction parts.
A pilot implementation of the project, by “Karamela” kindergarten, to a group of 18 children of 5-6 years old, during three months, presented encouraging positive outcome.
