Abstract

The building of the Physics Hall of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, known in collective memory as the Chemistry/Physics Hall, was founded in 1887 and completed in 1890. The political, social, and educational context of the time led to the design and construction of a building that would meet the administrative, research, and educational needs of Sciences. For over a century, prominent professors have been associated with its research and teaching activities. Scientific instruments, devices, and books were acquired, forming its legacy. Moreover, its operation has been linked to significant moments in the national and social history of Greece. After its renovation, completed in 2017, the Sciences and Technology Museum was restructured and reopened (in 1996, it was decided that the building would be used as a museum), becoming a landmark for both the University and the city of Athens.
