Abstract
This paper presents the development of a Mystery-Solving teaching intervention focused on studying microstructure through the use of Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) images. The teaching intervention was designed using the 5E instructional model and involves the use of images of human hair samples provided by the Virtual SEM simulation of a scanning electron microscope. Students are tasked with investigating the microstructure of male and female human hair, identifying differences between two samples, and identifying the suspect in a mystery scenario.
