Abstract

The present study has examined the effect of collaboration in designing STEM teaching and identifying STEM integration. 26 teachers, split into 4 Learning Communities (LC), designed STEM teaching material in three phases, while they presented and reflected on it during the LC sessions. Qualitative content analysis of the LC discussions and the STEM lesson plans revealed that teachers interacted in various ways during the design of STEM teaching, by sharing resources and adopting activities and strategies from peers. Also, in most cases, teachers identified increasingly more interconnections and boundary objects in their STEM teaching, and in a more explicit way. Findings speak to the facilitating role of collaboration in designing STEM teaching.
