2nd Paper of the Symposium From the dust of Oblivion to History: The Journey of the Exhibits of the Sciences and Technology Museum of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens
Abstract
In the building of the Old Chemistry/Physics Hall of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), many old –often unique– scientific, research and educational instruments and devices that operated at the NKUA for more than a century, promoting science and education, are gradually being re-located. Historical books, original self-made objects and old laboratory experiment benches are being re-located. The primary concern for the identification, conservation and restoration of the instruments, devices and infrastructure is absolute respect for design, materials, technologies of the time and tradition. At the same time, modern tools such as artificial intelligence are being employed for object documentation, creating educational programs, and interactive games. The goal is to create a modern, accessible museum for all visitors.
