Abstract

The purpose of this manuscript was (a) the writing of refutation texts that deal with students’ alternative ideas related to the Electrostatic field and (b) the investigation of the effectiveness of these refutation texts in abandoning students’ alternative ideas. For this purpose, asynchronous access to refutation texts was made available to 14 8th graders and the effectiveness of using them was recorded. The results showed a significant improvement in only some of the students’ alternative ideas. The results are discussed in relation to the effectiveness of refutation texts and how they could be more effective in future implementation.
