A refutational text about the understanding of the concept of black hole in Secondary education
Abstract
This study aimed to develop a refutational text that could be incorporated into the teaching of the concept of black holes in secondary education. To achieve this, a literature review was conducted focusing on a) the historical evolution of the concept and b) the alternative ideas that can be associated with black holes. The literature search was performed using the research database "Google Scholar" revealing that research in this field is limited. The most prevalent alternative conceptions about black holes identified were a) that they can absorb everything in the universe and b) that they appear "black" across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. The proposed refutational text addressing these misconceptions is presented in the form of a radio broadcast, where a student engages in a discussion with a physicist about his concerns regarding black holes.
