Abstract

The present teaching proposal was based on the New Kindergarten Curriculum and focuses on the teaching of the natural concepts related to the weather phenomenon of the storm in preschool children. The teaching process was based on the 5E teaching model and was implemented in three kindergartens. Key teaching objectives were for the children to understand lightning strike and flash, to develop collaborative and creative skills and to recognize the value of digital information. According to previous research, preschool children have alternative perceptions of the storm phenomenon. The results showed their initial perceptions, that were theological or formed based on their sensory experiences, were replaced by a scientifical understanding. Children also showed interest in the activities and participated actively in them. The use of the 5E teaching model, as well as digital technologies, helped children to become actively involved in the learning process and to understand more fully the natural phenomena.
