Inquiry based learning in STEM: Cultivation of problem-solving skills throughout project-based learning
Abstract
The purpose of the present research is to investigate the extent to which students’ contact with open-ended inquiry courses contributes to the cultivation of skills that contribute to successful problem-solving. 19 2nd, 3rd and 4th graders with a theoretical background in STEAM and graded level experience in open-ended inquiry courses and project creation, took part in research. Through the conduction of a semi-structured course, their ability to collaborate, to apply prior knowledge to product creation and problem solving, and the extent to which they were able to innovate were observed.
