Abstract

This study aims to design, implement and evaluate an innovative teaching intervention for student teachers to acquire Control Variable Strategy (CVS) skills using an Augmented Reality Pedagogical Agent called "Nefeli. Twenty-four students of a Department of Early Childhood Education participated in the study by answering a relevant questionnaire in three phases of the intervention (pre-mid-post test). Student responses were analysed qualitatively using a rubric, and then the data were statistically analysed. The results showed statistically significant improvement in almost all questions related to CVS skills. Furthermore, the results highlighted the influence of the scientific content to the acquisition of CVS skills; an influence which seems to be differentiated depending on CVS skills.
