Development of hope in elementary school students through an educational environmental program on climate change

Abstract

In this paper, we present and discuss our results from the implementation of an educational environmental program aimed at flourishing hope for dealing with climate change in elementary school students. In Phase A of the program, students participated in educational activities through which they learned about the causes and consequences of climate change, conducted experiments to study the greenhouse effect, took action to calculate their school's carbon footprint, and sought ways to reduce it. In phase B, the implementation of collective actions in their school stimulated their sense of hope and self-efficacy to alleviate this local and international problem.
