Abstract

This paper focuses on the study of the sine function, in the school textbooks of Mathematics and Physics of the General High School. The aim of the paper, first, is to systematically document the occurrences of representations of the function in the textbook content and, second, to investigate its transformations at the level of processing, transformation, and complex transformation. The results of the research show that the sinusoidal function in mathematics appears mainly mono-functionally in procedural knowledge and standardized approach level activities, while its interdisciplinary character is not highlighted. In Physics and in the activities where the function is involved, it seems to appear to a greater extent, multi-functionally, where more than one representation register is activated, favouring their cognitive coordination.
