Abstract
The modern and constantly changing and evolving social and political environment of our country also affects the field of education, which is a living and open organization to society. It requires managers with skills, special personal characteristics, scientifically shielded and knowledgeable in matters of public and school administration who will be able to respond to innovations by charting a new path and new horizons in the educational activities of our country. The acceptance of principals both within the school unit and more widely depends on the level of their qualifications, knowledge and practical application. In this way, an effective, efficient and productive school will be created that will achieve the established goals, always based on ethical principles and values. The managers of the Greek school units are faced with challenges and how they deal with them determines the way the school is managed and possibly their future course in the new reality that is being formed every day. The principal is at the top of the school administrative pyramid and is both administrative and pedagogical in charge of the school (No. F. 353.1./324/105657/Δ1/Government Gazette 1340/16/10/2002). As Spyropoulou (2010) points out, from the beginning of the 80s until today, the main criterion for obtaining a managerial position is the years of educational experience. Despite the efforts made by the state from time to time to make the selection process more scientific, no similar design has yet been achieved to form the basis of a more progressive approach.
