Abstract

The present paper aims to connect mythology with the brand name of Greece by exploring the creation of theme parks. Greek mythology is internationally recognized and directly intertwined with the country’s intangible culture, however, until today this connection has not been investigated. In order to achieve the aim of the study, primary qualitative research was conducted through in-depth interviews with thirty informants. The study attempts to capture the development dynamics of thematic tourism in Greece based on Greek mythology, to highlight the comparative advantages and potential challenges and to investigate the viability of such a venture. The results of the research highlighted the cultural value of Greek mythology, the need for cooperation between the stakeholders in order to create an innovative and sustainable product with cultural, educational and recreational dimensions, respecting the cultural heritage and aiming to offer authentic and experiential experiences to visitors.
