The Use of Scenarios to Explore Primary School Students' Pre-existing Knowledge about Natural Disasters Affected by Climate Change, in the Context of Education for Sustainability

Abstract
The goal of the present study is to assess primary school students' initial understanding of the relation between climate change and natural disasters. The research tool was a revised scenario-based questionnaire which was pilot tested in October 2024 with 24 primary school students of grades 5 and 6. The revised questionnaire included three natural disasters (wildfires, floods, earthquakes), each of which examines five variables related to students' understanding (content knowledge, link to climate change, event management, self-efficacy, education, and willingness to be engaged).
