Abstract
An analysis of visual images in e-books produced by pre-service early childhood teachers focusing on the development of children’s Scientific Visual Literacy is presented. A framework involving the specialization of the visual code, scientific thinking competencies required for reading each image, and image types was developed. The analysis of three e-books indicates that, after focused instruction, future teachers are capable of selecting and using in their educational materials images that familiarize children with the scientific visual code and with a variety of thinking competencies and types.
