Abstract
Focusing on consumers’ moral thinking about food should be regarded as a key aspect of sustainability education to promote sustainable food choices more effectively. This study investigates the extent to which 849 primary and secondary school students recognize a range of ethical issues that arise within the food system (ethical sensitivity). Participants completed a questionnaire with closed-ended questions. Most participants were found to be aware of the food issues, which are inherent in the functioning of food systems. However, this ability was more limited among primary school students, and on certain variables of the environmental pillar of sustainability.
