Perceptions of First Year Students of Different University Majors about the Shape of the Stars

Abstract
This research examines first-year students' views on the shape of stars. A wide range of perceptions and misconceptions was revealed through questionnaires. A small percentage of students consider stars spherical, while a significant percentage describes them as irregular with protruding rays. Factors such as rotational speed, gravity, temperature, and gravitational interactions with other celestial bodies are recognized as key influences. The findings emphasize the need for educational interventions to enhance scientific literacy.
