Teachers' perceptions about the causes, characteristics and treatment of ADHD: Pilot research
Abstract
Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a disorder that often occurs in children and adolescents and teachers are the first to recognize its characteristics. Nevertheless, in Greek reality the knowledge and misunderstandings of primary teachers for ADHD have not been sufficiently explored. That is where the present research-pilot project aims. 37 teachers were asked to complete a KADD-Q Knowledge Based Attention Deficit Disorder Questionnaire (KADD-Q) questionnaire. The results show that educators were better aware of the ADHD characteristics compared to their treatment. However, there was no statistically significant correlation between years of service and teacher responses. Based on these results, it is proposed to further educate teachers on issues related to this disorder.
