Abstract
This paper examines the impact of poverty and especially its psychosocial consequences on the child and the family. Dramatic are the effects of poverty on children and families with a history of poverty as they encounter obstacles to their subsequent development. Poverty affects children's development, school performance and careers, disrupts family relationships, wives' communication, and relationships between children and parents. The state of poverty makes people vulnerable to a serious mental illness. Poverty is not just an economic issue, it is an important social problem not only for developing but also for economically advanced countries, it is a form of crisis that tends to take global dimensions.
