Abstract

The lack of psycho-pedagogical intervention programs on the island of Paros for elementary school students coming from socially vulnerable groups, being at risk of exclusion and facing learning difficulties, led to the implementation of this pilot action with the assistance of the Association for Regional Development and Mental Health - EPAPSY. Seven students aged 11-12 attended at ten meetings. The results of the psychological assessment revealed that the participants had incomplete protective factors in their psychosocial development. Correspondingly, the educational assessment demonstrated weakness in the morphological stage of acquiring literacy and reduced learning motives. The psycho-educational group focused primarily on enhancing the psychological resilience and psychosocial adjustment of members through the detection of their personal, social and ideal self. The structure of the program derives from Yalom’s therapeutic agents, following an escalation process to investigate intrapersonal conflicts and enhance their self-image, with the contribution of artistic and experiential methods. At the same time, the program was geared towards the acquisition of morphological awareness, with the goal of orthography and the cultivation of learning incentives, to contribute to positive self-perception.
