Abstract

This research project aims to highlight the relationship between school and family and attempts to capture, identify and analyze the attitudes of migrant parents regarding their participation in their children's school life and their relationships with the school and the teachers.

The survey was conducted in the county of Magnesia with the distribution of questionnaires to foreign parents. The findings of the survey showed that the factors that affect the involvement of parents in their children's school life are ethnicity as well as education and gender. Foreign parents do not seem to be very involved in the education of their children compared to Greek parents. In particular, they do not help them with homework, do not provide them with adequate learning opportunities and are not very interested in the schooling of their children. These findings raise a number of issues that have to be resolved mainly by the state, the school and the teachers.
